they might be giants...

shoes: steve madden. tights, necklace, & earrings: gifted. skirt: j.crew. belt & stripes: forever21. button-up: eddie bauer. bracelet & flower hairthing: downeast outfitters.

"Woahhhhhh. You're taaaaaaalllllll." First thing I heard, all prepubescent-chorus-like, when I walked into my son's 1st grade class this morning for my volunteer hour. Which is a comment I'm not really sure what to do with. Thank you? You're welcome? I'm sorry? I know? Get off me? Endless possibilities for responses, really. [Editor's note: You'll be relieved to know: I just smiled at the kids and sat down. There. Crisis averted.]

Bottom line: I attribute my newfound height to these SHOES. I heart them.

Today's jumping-off point was this denim pencil skirt. It needs some slight tailoring, but I haven't had time, so I decided to wear it with a chunky belt to hide the waistband until it's fixed. I'm afraid Sunday's ensemble got me into a total stripedy-stripe-stripe mood (PLUS it's breton stripes day), so I went with this little number. If you'll recall, it's a tunic length (some might go so far as to say it's a "dress" length, but not I, my friends. Not I.), so I tucked it here, over a pale yellow button-up.

The button-up was slightly problematic. It looked off when I wore the collar down, but so did it also look a little strange when I purposefully flipped it up. So I just opened up the back of the collar and let the front fall where it may. That's right. Living life on the edge. I'm famous for this kind of thing, you know. Like one time I went to bed without brushing my teeth.

[Editor's note: That's true, but what she's failing to admit is the END of the story, which is that she got up a sleepless hour later to brush in the dark because she couldn't handle her fuzzy teeth. So. Probably "living life on the edge...of a secure 10-foot-buffer zone" would be more accurate. But, you know, tomayto tomahto.]

I love these bright blue tights from my friend Val, and I thought this would be a great day to wear them. In this ensemble, they come across as kind of a neutral, really--just an extension of the blue denim skirt. A bright, glow-in-the-dark extension, of course, but still. They're pretty Unexpected & Maybe Awesome for me here. And I like how they're downplayed, just slightly, by the taupe booties.

Question for you all: How do you wear earrings? They are currently the bane of my style existence. I normally default to my beloved diamond studs, but my friend RaeLynn wanted me to try some danglies, which I did here (you know, that life-on-the-edge thing again). I feel like these are all wrong with this ensemble, but I'm not sure what I should do differently. Please! Earring advice! I'm begging you!

(ahem) Regardless...happy Tuesday.

the skirt, the tights, the booties... yum. serious yum. shoes are so magical aren't they?

this is what i always say about earrings... go big or go home girl! thats really just me, the other sisters don't totally agree with me... i just figure if no one notices them, why wear them? i wil wear a non-dangle-y but it will still be a huge chunky vintage goodness that you can't take your eyes off of... again, thats just me :)

This color combo is awesome and I love those shoes! I always feel tall when I wear heels to work and have to talk to KG or 1st graders! It's awesome because I NEVER get to feel tall!

I love this ensemble! The colors together are perfect and I adore those shoes!

As far as earrings go, I'm definitely a simple girl. They aren't really my favorite accessory, so I usually just stick to my pearl studs that my mom handed down to me :).

I'm like you. I have go-to earrings - flower diamond earrings my mom gave to me as a wedding present. But I've been trying to accessorize more recently. I find it completes "the look". Having said that, I still love my go-to earrings. My hairstyle right now always covers earrings anyway. And I am not a big fan of chunky earrings. They hurt! LOL...
Have a look at my blog. You'll see what I mean about the hairstyle :)

Is EBEW on your sidebar? Thanks for showing the love!
I love that repurposed all your pieces here. You made the skirt work, you layered and tucked your tops. It all works so nicely.

Thanks so much for stopping at my blog! I know, aren't those jeans to die for? They are GAP so keep your eyes on the sales.
As for your earring problems: I went through a huge earring phase a couple years ago. They were my go to accessory. I feel that if you are going to wear earrings that is slightly bigger than dainty (ei studs/tiny hoops/small droplets) then it is best to leave them on their own. I never combine dangly earrings with a necklace. It's too much for me. I can basically only do one accessory at a time. My exceptions to the rule? I love to pile on brooches and wedding rings do not count as accessories since they are always there as part of your finger.

I LOVE the bright blue tights! So cute.

And I've had a hard time with earrings lately too, but maybe that's because my kid is still at the grabby stage. I wear diamond studs almost every day. They're just so easy!

Your stripes fit right in with the other bloggers who are wearing them for "Wear your Breton Stripes Shirt" day.

Here are a couple guidelines I've read about earrings. Keep them very small (or don't wear any) if you are wearing a showy statement necklace, so that they don't compete with each other. They can be larger if you want them to be the focus. The shape of the earrings should be the opposite of your face shape. For example, if your face is long and narrow, wear round earrings.

YES! another mom in the fashion blog world...love it! I am a mom/fashion blogger/vintage store owner..so I appreciate your stories. I was laughing about the "you are so tall" comment.. many times I teeter off to school to pick up the kiddos in heels..wedges usually so I don't look too non-mommy like..but for the most part, I wear what I want. thanks!

I think the earrings you're wearing look pretty fab here...so what are you talking about? ;) My default pair of earrings right now seem to be a medium sized pair of silver hoops I picked up at Target. I probably wear them 5 or 6 days during the week. I also wear some oversized pearl earrings and fairly large silver ball earrings a lot too, so pretty neutral stuff. I think the more you wear larger or dangly earrings the less self conscious you eventually feel about them.
