a joyful heart. a candy-filled mouth.

(This number match would've been PERFECT if I only had a hairier back. And jaggedy shins...)
shoes: steve madden. leggings: don't recall. skirt & striped shirt: gap. floral shirt: f21. bracelet: downeast outfitters. earrings: hawaii.

Sorry about allllllll the photos today...I was editing and chatting at the same time and didn't realize how many photos I'd done. Thus...one bazillion pics of yours truly. Best day of your life, I know. You're welcome.
So, there's snow outside. Just a wee bit, though, on a few sidewalks. [Editor's note: Can I use words like "wee" even if I'm not Irish? or Scottish? Discuss, but only in brogue accents.] And, although this footwear would indeed fall under the "sandal" category, I think the designers secretly had snow in mind. See the platform? Yep. Like snowshoes to keep my toes out of the snow. Brilliant.

This outfit is kinda everywhere at once. Floral & stripes, button-up and henley tee, pencil skirt and chunky bracelet, crazy patterned leggings and gladiator wedges...really, today there's no method to my madness. But I think it's Unexpected and Maybe Awesome.

And actually, if you were to peek into my soul today, you'd find an equally...um...varied array of emotion. I'm content, somber, wild, flighty, giddy, focused, and, above all, joyful. Despite the fact that my puppy broke my favorite watch yesterday. And the fact that my darling 4-year-old has missplaced (no doubt forever) one of her new ballet slippers. And the fact that my heart and thoughts rarely stray from Pocket's grampa, fighting for his life, and gramma, watching her beloved fight for his life.

There is sadness and fear and awfulness in my world at times. But the fact remains that last night my little family laughed until we cried. And all three kidlets now love Charlie the puppy. (Our 4-year-old has been struggling since we got Charlie last October. And when I say "struggling," what I really mean is "petrified" and "expressed in 180-decibel paranoid screams if the dog so much as glanced her way.") And we played and hung out and created a golden glow of warmth and home even in a fluorescent-bulbed basement (not exactly the coziest of lighting devices; I think we'll be switching back. Don't tell the Green Police on me. At least not til after taxes...).

Anyways. Despite its ups and downs and in-between plateaus, life is delicious and lovely. And I wanted today's ensemble to reflect that. Now if only the buttons were edible hunks o' chocolate...

Happy Wednesday.

Does this ensemble make you happy too? Check out the stuff below...

I absolutely love this look on you. It IS everywhere at once, but it's everywhere AWESOMELY.

I'm sorry to hear about the struggles happening right now. I appreciate your honesty and not trying to be "up" all the time. You seem to have such a close family and I'm glad for you.

@kellyann: thanks! i love these wedges...nevermind the fact that they put me over 6' tall...
@melissa: my family is close. i'm lucky like that. i didn't mean to sound all "woe is me" about struggles, though. i just meant that life is good! good enough to bust out a crazy ensemble now and then and feel fine about it. :)
@cathy: chocolate? done and done.

Love this look. You summed up things perfectly - life is messy, and unpredictable, and a little wild at times (especially with kids running around.) But that's what makes it so fun. Your outfit helps too.

awesome use of pattern mixing! You totally nailed it! I am pattern mixing today too! I actually got a dog because my kids were insanely afraid of dogs- it worked! Happy to hear of your success!

The floral with the stripe is so sweet and pretty! I especially love that shade of pinky red and that shade of blue together! And, I really like how your tights kind of toughen up the whole look! Definitely a great outfit!

@demuremuse: welcome! i'm so glad you came by!
@peggy: seriously, that's exACTly why we got our puppy. we were headed into realms of extremely unhealthy paranoia. so glad our dog is part of the family now. it's so delightful! i had no idea. :)

Your pattern mixing makes me happy! I totally didn't include enough color or pattern in my 30 items, so I'm living vicariously through all my favorite fun-filled bloggers! :) Loving it!

Ugh, if only all buttons were made of chocolate...no, wait...no one's clothes would stay on then. Just found your blog and love your photos! Good for you for adding some Maybe Awesome to your day. (Also, I think you should stick with the fluorescent bulbs...) :)

How in the world do you get inside photos to 1) have amazing light and 2) look so darn artsy?!

This outfit is fantastic! I absolutely adore your style, and your willingness to just go with what makes you happy. You always look so amazing :)

I'm sorry for the struggles your family is going through right now, but I admire you for finding your own happy glow together where you can.

@emily: aw, that's nice of you! i take photos in my living room, where practically one wall is only windows, facing east, so it's got great natural light every morning. as for the artsiness?...just me being my silly self. but i love that you call it "art." :)
@jtwisdom: thanks for stopping by! and for calling my ensemble full of energy. that makes my day.
@tara: would you still support me when i find my happy glow in a 8-pound-bag-full of pnut m&ms? you would? awesome. let's be friends.

Macy Dawn said...

Oh, yeah! Those footless tights ROCK this outfit!

Tara said...

Um, I would urge you to find the happy glow in the peanut m&ms. Believe me, I know what's good for you :)

I read your posts but I sometimes get confused by your asides, [this], and (this). I think the problem is I try to imagine how your tone of voice as you would be speaking and then I get confused really quickly.

I love the colors in the outfit though! The leggings are off the hook by the way.

I love how despite the mix of emotions in your life - happiness, sadness, fear, joy, you still seem to appreciate everything in life. Good luck :)

I like the "180-decibel paranoid screams" description. I can definitely hear it all across an ocean (^^)
