white legs, white legs, what do you see?...

shoes: don't recall. white legs: wyntair au natural. skirt: thrifted. slip: a slip shop. shirt & jacket: kohl's. bracelet: forever21. earrings: hawaii.

Confession: up until about 4 months ago, my legs have been the bane of my existence. Well, nearly. I've spent my whole life being embarrassed of them, because to me they were simply massive hunks o' whale blub. Or something equally as unflattering. Even as a long-distance runner, I couldn't do anything to slim them down. Which was frustrating and embarrassing and annoying.

Enter: this blog beginning in December, which involved taking daily photos of me, which (naturally) involved my legs...or some super awkward poses. Oh. Wait...

Maybe I've become numb to them (the sight of my legs) after sorting through hundreds of self-pics over the past few months. Maybe my acceptance of and appreciation for different body types has changed as I've viewed and enjoyed countless other style blogs. Maybe...I dunno. Can't think of any other scenarios. But for whatever glorious reason, I'm not ashamed of my legs anymore. Sure, they're white. Sure, my calves are larger than the average bear's. Sure I'll never be able to pull off some styles because of them.

But it's okay, because they're functional. They're very forgiving of the pounding I put them through by running. They go wherever I want them to, whenever I want them to. And they keep my feet attached to the rest of my body...which is good because I happen to like shoes.

Anyway. This post is dedicated to you, legs o' mine. In all your winter-whitened glory. *clink & drink*

Happy Monday!

p.s. Has anyone else experienced a lifetime outlook change as a result of style/fashion blogging? Or reading blogs? Seriously, I'd love to hear.

I couldnt disagree more about your 'whale blubber' legs! I'll trade you yours for my bugle/dorito legs....ANY DAY!!

my legs are the same - super pale and huge calves from running/sports. but i like to think of them as toned and healthy! so in short, your legs are lovely and definitely deserve recognition! =)

I have super pale legs too. I don't want to spray tan, so I'm trying to embrace the pale!

Your pale legs are very similar to my pale legs. A gym teacher made fun of me in high school... something about the sun reflecting off my legs and hurting her eyes. They say kids are mean in high school but this teacher was mean. She also made fun of my long arms. The fact that I still remember 10 years later shows something.

I was going to submit my site to your thing at the top. I saw it this weekend. But I don't have any banners on my blog that aren't mine so I've been debating.

That skirt could have worked for polkadot day. I love it.

I love all your clothes so the I love the outfit comments just don't cut it from me anymore.

I actually refused to wear red lipstick until recently because I thought I wasn't pretty enough. Isn't that disgusting? If anyone ever talked to me the way that I do in my head I'd punch them in the face.

I can proudly say that I bought some red lipstick and have rocked it quite a bit lately. It's 100% a result of blogging.

So glad to hear that you've found something new to love (not hate) about yourself. :)

I think I am more accepting of my short status, it isn't great but I have learned through blogging to look for the beauty and style in all kinds of people! My legs are that white all year so there.

Oh I've definitely come to terms with some of my "problem" areas. I realize that it's just a part of me! and I want to be self-loving, not in a narcissistic way, although I do post photos of myself everyday, hmm!

i am so totally way more accepting of my body since i started fashion blogging. when i'm having a 'feeling fat' or just a blah day, looking at my pictures often cheers me up, because i usually don't look as bad as i feel. plus making more of an effort to look good most days has really boosted my self-esteem. so fashion blogging rules!! :)

I love following fashion blogs because I like learning the science of it all. I know how to dress myself fairly well, but I'm no expert.

But as a blogger, I've become FAR more confident in my ability to write, to entertain, and to amass readers. It's been wonderful. :)

Your legs look amazing - strong and lean! I love the polka dots too.

P.S. In case you were wondering, I think I win hands down for biggest calves ever :)

I always find it amazing to hear what people don't like about themselves, because I think it's almost never something other people see. I think you're legs are gorgeous- super thin but toned. I'm not saying this to be kind, I'm expressing a genuine understanding of what I see.

I love blogging because it really does force people to become comfortable with themselves or else hate their hobby (and what a bummer!). I certainly have come to love and appreciate my body more, even my massive calves (mine next to yours would be like the Statue of Liberty next to a Lego man).

It's so funny what some people think is there body issue and others just don't see. I struggle with the same issue about my calves. They are large but yours in comparison aren’t big. (hope that makes ya feel better) I’d trade mine for yours, that’s for sure. I have just learned to deal with it. It’s me, I blame my mom for poor leg genes but besides that no one but me probably cares about them and worries about them. So I just decided to not care. I do try to keep them tanned with tanning cream because I think that makes them look smaller. And if that isn’t long enough email me and I’ll write some more. I can go on forever.

And your outfit…I am really into the skirt mixed with the red and army green. You have a knack for mixing and matching things.

Your legs are awesome lady! I have been much more accepting of my curvy petite figure since taking up blogging. I think personal style blogging is such a good practice for working with and loving what you've got!

While I fully acknowledge how weird this statement is, it has to be said...your legs may be pale, but they are a good pale, which makes me jealous, because mine are an awkward, yellowish-undertoned pale, which is not pleasant at all. So, you win at untanned-ness. Woo :)

Love the skirt/slip combo. Using the slip to lengthen the skirt? Genius!

I love this outfit on you! I think you have great legs - super athletic and strong. But I hear you on the insecurity. I was a figure skater my whole life, so I had strong, muscular legs. Then when I quit skating, I still had the muscles but now they were covered in freshman fifteen fat. I am still trying to get over my body hangups, but I definitely think that taking pictures of myself every day is going a long way toward forcing me to accept my body and get over my issues.

i have, since jr.high school, called my calves--cows--because they are far too large to be calves:) i played soccer and my legs were always thick--even when i wasn't cutefatandshort.blogspot.com:) blogging for those of us who are square--literally--has been really fun for me to accept that i can be a white, hot, modest, old, chick, with tons of personality that comes through clothes and accepting who you are, boldy so!

UM... did we thrift the same skirt and wear it on the same day?! haha I love how you rocked it. And I love the modest button thing! I don't think I'd qualify because I often wear dresses with thin straps, but I'm still all for modesty and think that's great. : )

I have athletic legs too, and fashion blogging has made me realize they're actually pretty slim still. Nothing like photographing yourself everyday to be more objective about your perceived physical flaws! Also, love the brown bear reference. A favorite book in our house too!

I am in TOTAL love with this outfit. The polka dot frilly skirt, the bright tee, the blazer, everything! You look gorgeous! What a fun outfit!

And you know what? Who cares if your calves are a little bigger (although to be honest, they don't look big at ALL to me). You should wear whatever style you want to wear, whether those styles are "good" for your shape or not. Who cares if our outfits make us look thinner or taller or whatever? Who says thinner or taller is BETTER? It's not.

End rant. :)

Here's to blogging and improving our body-image! I feel the same way--I feel way better about my so-called flaws (blinding white legs, tummy pooch that just won't go away, etc.) than before I blogged. And I think you have great legs by the way :) They look great in that fun, dotty skirt!

I'm not really an appropriate person to try talking someone out of a body image complaint, BUT I have to say that your legs look fabulous. They are toned and NOT AT ALL large. I think your calves are smaller than mine, and I have no problem with the size of mine, even! I wouldn't even look at yours and think "athletic" except that you're in such great shape. As a person with rather large legs, I can officially say yours are a very nice size. (What styles do you think you can't pull off? Curious.) Also, this outfit is extremely cute. Nice work.
