some things just shouldn't be blogged. this is one of them.

boots: target. jeans: kohl's. shirt: gift. cardigan: loft. knee-high socks: smith's marketplace. belt: downeast basics (american eagle). earrings: hawaii. necklace: gift from sister.
Okay, not to alarm anyone, but let me just say this: I'm not feeling it today. This outfit is, pardon my French, crapola. And I knew it was such when I put it on. Why didn't I change, you ask me? (Why didn't she change? She looks terrible, you whisper to your neighbor.)

I don't know. I honestly just don't know. It's super rainy outside, so I wanted to cozy up today. Hence the cableknit sweater. Because, really, cozy + cableknit were twins separated at birth, I'm pretty sure. And I didn't want to tromp around in massive parking lot puddles in anything other than boots.

Annnnd, just to stick-it-to-the-man (poor guy; he didn't even do anything today), I put on this totally random nylon belt that has nothing to do with anything and would really rather be hanging in the closet with all its friends rather than be stuck with makeup-less ol' me all day.

I promise I'm not depressed, sick, tired, or mad. It's just one of those days where I look up at the universe, shrug my shoulders, and say, "You know what? I just don't care today." Everyone has a day like that now and again, don't they? Don't you? No? You make Cinderella look like a beastly non-morning person? Good for you and the mice you've adopted.

Happy Tuesday.

he's got plans...and he might just maybe figure out how to use 'em

boots: target. tights & faux pearls: don't recall. skirt: gap. shirt: thrifted. cardigan: rue21. flower clip & polka dot sash: downeast outfitters.

Every week, my son's 1st grade teacher sends home his past week's completed schoolwork. Last night's was a typical compilation of oversized jaggedy penmanship and sloppy abstract coloring.

[Editor's note: My son's strengths are many, but fine-motor-skills-requiring schoolwork is not one of them. Which is fine. I have a brilliant, successful 41-year-old brother whose current handwriting looks like a 9-year-old's, so I'm not losing sleep over here.]

So. Glancing through the schoolwork, I come across a page that made me laugh. Out loud. It started with the printed words, "I need my teeth..." followed by three lines for the student to fill in the blanks about why they do, indeed, need their teeth. My son's reasons were as follows: (ahem)

(1) to smile. (yep)
(2) to chew. (absolutely)
(3) to atrakt a mate.

There you have it, folks. A 6-year-old on the fast-track to dental-dom and wedded bliss.

Happy Tuesday!

p.s. It's polka dot day on everybody, everywhere. I forgot and wore polka dots yesterday. Heh. Silly me. So today's look featured the sash that came with yesterday's shirt. Nice save, right? (Answer: Yes. Very nice.)

it's the final countdown (cue 80s synthesizer: dihdle-EE-duh, dihdle-EE-dih-duhhh...)

Mission: Accomplished. It's with mixed emotion that I've approached today. On one hand, I'm ecstatic that it's over. On the other, I'm giddy.

I'm going to title the next photo sequence: Fidgety.
shoes: steve madden. knee-high socks: don't recall. skirt: kohl's. black shirt: thrifted. striped sweater: american eagle outfitters. belt: forever21.
Next photo sequence: Gid-Kid.
I kind of think this outfit falls brutally short, and while part of me wants to end the 30x30 challenge on a high note, the other 110% of me (a) doesn't want to do laundry just to retrieve some other items that would've worked better, (b) can hardly contain myself because Pocket gets home from his DC work trip today, and (c) is completely okay with being a little off. It just proves I'm a normal human being (albeit a quirky one...).

So. On an unrelated note, I decided that wearing platform shoes of any kind while it's snow-raining (snaining? bingo.) is brilliant because one's foot is an inch above the ground and, therefore, has a high likelihood of staying dry throughout a sploshy toddler-juggling sludge through the grocery store parking lot.

I didn't want to go grocery shopping today, mind you. I wanted to stay nice and warm and dry in my bed and watch HGTV all day while my kids entertained themselves and the dog. But I've developed an unfortunate habit of running out of food while Pocket's gone. "Dinnertime, kids! Cornflakes and celery tonight! Go easy on the milk...we have exactly 1 tablespoon for everyone. That'll double as dessert, too. Enjoy!"

Actually I think a mother (*coughmecough*) should earn bonus points for being able to keep all her children alive on crumbs and apple peels for four days. Sure, I could've gone shopping, but what's the fun in that? I tend to get creative when I'm limited. Like, how else could I have discovered that craisins on toast would make a delicious snack? (Disclaimer: I don't actually know if it would; it was going to be today's snack had I not gotten groceries. But if you want to give it a try and let me know, by all means...) It's kind of like doing the 30x30 challenge--'cept someone could actually die doing the 30x30, so you've gotta be careful...

Happy HAPPY Thursday.

p.s. I added a shiny new feature at the top of my homepage. Check it out and let me know if you're interested in being added.
p.p.s. I really did learn some good things while doing this 30x30 challenge, and I'll expand on that tomorrow during my recap post.

ready, set, be funny...

Use your imaginations, kids. There's a "10" in there somewhere.
boots: target. tights: don't recall.  slip: a slip shop. skirt: gap. shirt: banana republic. cardigan: rue21. necklace: gifted. belt: forever21.

May I have a re-do of yesterday's post? Pretty please? I meant it to be light-hearted and optimistic; I'm afraid it read as a somber prelude to depression. So let's lighten the mood, shall we? With some wit. And humor. Real soon, I'm going to write something funny. Hilarious, even. Useful for humorous ice-breaking fodder at your next party. Wait for it. Waiiiiiit for iiiiiittttttttt....

Dang. I got nothin.

My roommates in college (the same ones responsible for Item #1 here. tsk tsk. such bad influences on poor innocent bystanding me...) were all hilarious. All of them. Well, okay, MOST of them. And the ones who weren't funny (i.e., me) usually laughed so hard we turned purple and couldn't breathe and were thereafter dubbed "Purps." But we most assuredly drew the line at peeing our pants. Maybe.

ANYways. Sometimes if things got too serious or quiet or boring, one of us would turn to someone at random and demand, "be funny!" The person then had to do/say/be something funny. Which is virtually impossible to do on-the-spot. It's like when people say, "what's your most embarrassing moment?" or "think of two truths and a lie" or "what's your kid's name?" Can NEVER think of a response right then, but give me about 15 hours, and I'll come up with something sweet. Something hilarious and clever and repeatable.

[Editor's note: Actually, I can remember all my kids' names. I was just kidding about that. It was more of a lighthearted jab directed at Pocket, who, after the delivery of our third child, couldn't remember her name to save his life. Or his good-standing with my dad, who was waiting patiently on the other end of the phone for his newest granddaughter's name and deets. Those poor husbands, man. Poor poor little dears. So exhausted after watching their wives give birth... :) ]

On a completely unrelated note, remember this fabulous slip from A Slip Shop? It always makes me want to break out in some sort of dance in that day's photo shoot, and I won't even apologize because, frankly, it's not my fault. The slip just makes me so happy! You should all get yourselves one, too.

Then you could dance in front of your camera and post the pics for all the world to see. Your mother, like mine, will be so proud of your feminine dignity. Right mom?...mom?... Hmmm...she must've stepped out for a sec. But trust me, guys. She's way proud and not embarrassed of me at all.

Happy Thursday!

p.s. This skirt that I'm wearing today? Same as this one. Do YOU have a magic skirt?
p.p.s. Another product review coming up this weekend from Kosher Casual! You guys, I couldn't be more excited about it. The skirt they kindly sent me is cuuuuute.

cellllll.uh.brate good times, COME ON! let's celebrate.

Warning: I'm in kind of a crazy-giddy-do-weird-stuff-and-laugh-really-hard-about-it-for-no-reason-much-to-the-annoyance-of, well, everyone-around-me mood.
I don't often get this way, actually. But when I do, it's serious. I lose all control. See those karate kicks? That's what I'm talking about. Random. And juvenile. And inappropriate. [Editor's note: But also...entertaining...]
Shoes: Mudd brand. Jeans: American Eagle Outfitters. Shirt: Gap. Belt: F21. Necklaces/bracelets: Who the heck knows. Flower: gifted.

Chances are, you're laughing so hard [Editor's note: She's flattering herself again; you and I both know that you're just rolling your eyes. And for good reason.] at today's pics that you (a) haven't even noticed what I'm wearing, (b) don't even care how it came together, and/or (c) forgot you left the iron on downstairs and need to go turn it off. Stat. Go ahead. I'll wait.

So, for many of you, New Year's Eve parties involve lots of sequin and gold and fanciness. For me, it (ideally!) involves a small gathering of close friends and family. And lots of kids. And games and food and attempts to squelch the urge to turn the clocks ahead 3 hours to "ring in the new year" at 9 and get home and to bed by 10 because I'm a granny and can't seem to stay awake that long anymore and, really, what's the difference, the new year's here when we wake up tomorrow.

Geez. Those of you who are not yet 31 are reeeeeeally scared of the middle-ageness you're seeing evidenced here. Live it up now, you young fries. Live it up.

ANYwee. I'm wearing my favorite black button-up, some pegged jeans because they just seemed to match my crazy unexpected mood (and I think they're Maybe Awesome here), and some heels (mary janes! I love.). Not wanting attention drawn to my feet, I kept footwear neutral.

Sequined belt tied in a cuh-razy knot. Tons of random jewelry. And my favorite lucky flower headband (recognize it from here and here?). I'm loving how I feel a little glamorous but can still do whatever my mood desires. Bring it on, new year! I love ya already.

Happy 2010.
