springtime mourning...

shoes: steve madden. maxi dress: gift. shirt: american eagle. belt & bracelet: forever21. necklace: downeast basics.

Some of you are in the throes of springtime. I'm super happy for you* [Editor's note: "*" = a total lie.], but I have to be frank: where I live, spring is about as close as discovering life on Mars.

Which isn't to say it won't ever happen -- didn't they find a form of water or gaseous substance that could potentially host some type of lifeform there? Or was that the moon? And what's with allsofasudden demoting Pluto from planet status to ex-planet status? I know it's old news, but still. Makes my heart hurt a little bit when I think of all the awesome 9-planet solar system mobiles I used to make in Science class, with cute little teensy tiny Pluto out in no-man's-land.

And when I say "all the mobiles," I of course mean one. I made one. I think. Plus a saweet baking-soda-vinegar exploding volcano, though, so don't think I was a Science class flunkie.

ANYway, my point is: the arrival spring in northern Utah isn't absolutely out of the question, but it sure doesn't look promising to happen in my lifetime. So. While the rest of the world flaunts their probably brightly-colored maxi dresses today (see what I'm talking about here), I wear black (accessorized only with spring-appropriate knick-knacks) and mourn the loss of a season that never will be.

Poor Spring. I bet, had she existed, she would've made quite the mark in the world. Probably would've played Varsity soccer and made a 3.8 and had her pick of of Ivy League schools. Then she would've turned them all down to follow her dream, enrolling in a small culinary school in Arkansas and buying a lime green VW beetle from which she would blast the Mamas & the Papas every morning on her way to her Yoga in the Park at Sunrise class.

Sighhh... So. Be kind. My Spring-less heart is in mourning.

Happy Tuesday.

here comes the sun (doo doo doo doo...)

Frame 1: First shot of the day. Whatevs.
Frame 2: Whooooooaaahh! There's SUN here!
Frame 3: Charlie! Look! That's called "sunlight"...
shoes: don't recall. dress: gift/hand-me-down. cardigan: j.crew. belt: kohl's (skirt/belt combo). bracelet: forever21. flower: downeast basics. necklace: gift.

This week I'm grateful for (in no particular order):

- Optional leg-shaving because it's winter...won't be the case too much longer, and I'm sure I'll miss it.
- Reassurance.
- Sunshine...on my shoulder...makes me hap-pyyyyy. (John Denver)
- John Denver. No, seriously. Who doesn't love "Annie's Song" and "Rocky Mtn High" and others? And if you say you don't, I probably won't believe you.
- 75 MPH speed limits. And an unspoken Utah 5-MPH buffer. Although I've been trying to not take advantage of that, so I set the cruise control for just 3 MPH over the speed limit. Just look at my almost-law-abiding self.
- Ikea. Especially the frozen yogurt ice cream cones. Is it just me, or are those, like, super unexpectedly delicious? Just me? Fine. I'll eat yours...
- Hand-me-downs.
- My husband. Adorable and adored. Same goes for the kiddos.
- Evidences of mankind's goodness and humanity. Makes me tear up sometimes. People are so, well, good.
- God. I just really felt His love for me--plain, average, insignificant me--in some pretty special, specific ways this week. So beautiful. So humbling.
- Jogging again after a long winter's hiatus.
- Not having blisters.

Happy Sunday.

a colorful black & white

boots: kohl's. dress: vintage. sweater & grey beaded necklace: don't recall. belt: f21. flower headband: gifted homemade.

Here's the great thing about a dress: it's one stinking piece, and you're done. Period. The end. Finis. I simply added a cardigan overtop this ultra-print dress because I didn't want people staring at me and crossing their eyes trying to decipher the hidden 3D picture. Don't get me wrong; those posters are cool and all. But I'm not a poster. I know that for a fact because when I turn sideways I don't disappear.

I usually add pops o' color in colorless outfits like this. But, what with the uber-print going on, I thought it might be best to just go mono (or would it be di-?) chromatic. Anyways. In the words of Michael Jackson's movie, this is it. Oooh, and "no matter if you're black or white." What a crazy-talented and crazy-crazy individual the King of Pop was.

This post is short. Or wordiness-challenged. Because it's Sunday and family time.

Tomorrow I'll post my 30 for 30. Try to get some sleep between now and then. I know how hard that will be. But try.

Happy Sunday.
