Pastel Plaid & Colored Tights

This is what I wore to church yesterday:

black boots: Kohl's
tights: gift
denim pencil skirt: J. Crew
gold skinny belt: J. Crew
pastel plaid buttonup: American Eagle Outfitters

Annnnd, in true Forrest Gump fashion, "That's all I have to say about that."

Which reminds me: Did you guys realize that Forrest Gump was made in 1994? That's almost 20 YEARS AGO?!?!?!!! Man. Not to go all granny on you with the uphill-both-ways-through-waist-high-snow and all that, but for real. I can't believe I'm getting so old.

But whatever. I'll enjoy my long hair for the next few weeks of youth until I'm forced to chop it and perm it and dye it blue. Just kidding. I would look terrible with a perm.

Happy Monday.

knee-length dress no matter where the belt's placed

I'm on the fence about wearing a belt at this stage in the pregnancy game.
I've long since jumped a different fence and have run waddled a mile up the nearby hill, though, about turquoise jewelry. Love it. Amen.

boots: kohl's. slip: a slip shop. linen dress: paris, france. cardigan: j.crew. belt & necklace: forever21.

I know. My hair here is, like, 2 generational inches shy of beehivehood. All I can think about when I see these photos is that one Seinfeld episode where the lady physical therapist has "old-fashioned" hair, and everyone makes fun of it except Kramer, who totally encourages her to keep it that way. I think I might be that girl, 'cept without the medical training. Or Kramer.

I learned that heeled shoes aren't that fun to wear for 4 hours when one's body is off-balance. But what IS fun is hiding some snags in the knees of one's tights with an exposed slip. It's like a little game with the universe in which, at any given moment, you're totally winning. Which, in turn, is comparable to eating the en.ti.re. box of chocolates in one sitting so that you won't be tempted by them later. Hah! Joke's on you, Cosmos.

Happy Wednesday.

p.s. For those of you tired of and/or unable to relate to a maternity-centered style blog, I promise I will post soon about some projects I'm working on. In the meantime...belly's up.

graytitude, grawtitude (get it? it's like a lamer, more confusing version of "potayto potawto.")

boots: kohl's. tights: gift. skirt: kosher casual. shirt: american eagle outfitters. jewelry: assorted. belt: forever21.

This week I'm grateful for:

- tax returns. Wahoooo!
- a roof over my head and food in my cupboards. So many people don't even have that, and I just feel so blessed.
- airplanes that bring my husband back to me.
- weather. Especially good weather, which I haven't had much of lately, which makes me grateful for its future debut...sooner or later. Preferably sooner. Like in 5 minutes. (You hearing me, Mother Nature?)
- new markers and coloring with my kiddos like I was 5 years old again. Seriously. Therapeutic.
- cadbury mini eggs.
- new mattress pad.
- hearing my 2-year-old say "oh. my. dosh." real slow and adult-like. (anytime a kid says something more "grown up" than they can actually correctly pronounce is, let's be honest, heart-melting. and hilarious.)
- the feeling of satisfaction.
- when things just work out. or, even if they didn't, the mere fact that they're over and done with. i'm grateful for that.

Happy Sunday!

a colorful black & white

boots: kohl's. dress: vintage. sweater & grey beaded necklace: don't recall. belt: f21. flower headband: gifted homemade.

Here's the great thing about a dress: it's one stinking piece, and you're done. Period. The end. Finis. I simply added a cardigan overtop this ultra-print dress because I didn't want people staring at me and crossing their eyes trying to decipher the hidden 3D picture. Don't get me wrong; those posters are cool and all. But I'm not a poster. I know that for a fact because when I turn sideways I don't disappear.

I usually add pops o' color in colorless outfits like this. But, what with the uber-print going on, I thought it might be best to just go mono (or would it be di-?) chromatic. Anyways. In the words of Michael Jackson's movie, this is it. Oooh, and "no matter if you're black or white." What a crazy-talented and crazy-crazy individual the King of Pop was.

This post is short. Or wordiness-challenged. Because it's Sunday and family time.

Tomorrow I'll post my 30 for 30. Try to get some sleep between now and then. I know how hard that will be. But try.

Happy Sunday.

Decisions...decisions...

Boots & belt: Kohls. Tights: F21. Skirt & denim jacket: Gap. White tee: Don't recall. Scarf: Smiths Marketplace. Bracelet & barrettes: gifted.

Today's jumping-off point was comparable to those synchronized divers in the Olympics. Well, kind of. Actually...not really. Here's the deal: just because one thing (i.e., diving. Specifically diving with talent. Not the will-she-cannon-ball-or-belly-flop kind of diving I tend to entertain all pool-goers with) is super cool doesn't necessarily mean that it will be twice as cool if it's doubled in exact replication and judged accordingly. Despite what those old double mint gum commercials would have you believe.

Except in the case of synchronized diving. Because, really. Kind of incredible.

Wow. Tangent. Anyway. Basically, I had two equally exciting jumping-off points, each of which held their own in this we've-all-seen-something-like-this-before kind of outfit. Guesses? No? That's probably because now you're thinking about that one time where that one synchronized diving team got robbed and it cost them a medal and you were so mad you spit your sunflower seed shells at the TV. No? Just me? Oh, okay.

Oversized salmon-colored bracelet & houndstooth
scarf. I love love love love love. [Editor's note: On the scarf, I found this sticker from the manufacturer: "Softer than cashmere?" The question mark kills me. C'mon, marketing department! Be bold! Your future in scarf sales just might depend upon it, and you've worked too hard to throw it all away with a punctuational slip of the proverbial tongue.] [Assistant Editor's note: Wha?...]

I like how the houndstooth is b&w and will go with anything. As a classic pattern itself, I decided to pair it today with another classic color/texture combo--denim & khaki. I also added a wide black pinstripe belt (that originally came with this skirt) for waist definition. And I thought the pinstripe would add a little class to the fairly casual look. I was deciding between black or red tights, and I finally decided on red because (a) they're actually more orangey than red, and (b) I therefore thought they would add a little boost, backup-singer-style, to the bracelet.

Tall black boots and a little color in the hair, and we're done here. Overall, I like it. Highly functional and comfortable. Although some people (my mother included) might wrinkle an eyebrow at the denim-to-church decision, I'm okay with it. Feel like it was upgraded a bit with a little accessorization. [Editor's note: I have GOT to stop making up words. My excuse is that I'm just too lazy to rewrite a sentence to make an actual word work... Please accept my apologizations.]

[Assistant Editor's note: That was Editor's idea of a joke. At least you don't work here. Pity me.]

Happy Sunday!

Sometimes, you've gotta just smile at yourself in the mirror and move on...

Today's jumping-off point was a cotton floral button-up shirt and a different floral patterned pencil skirt. Then I decided I didn't like the shirt with the skirt, so I changed shirts. Twice. Then I decided that maybe the offending party was the skirt, so out it went.

Ever had one of those days? Yeah. Me too. Like, today.

For some odd reason, I really really wanted to wear a floral today. And, if I'm honest with you (always), I wanted to pair it with a little Christmas sparkle. After all, my daughters were dressed in their velvety-satin holiday finery, and I wanted to join the fun. I finally settled on this shirt, which, I think, is a lovely shimmery number without being in-your-face.

[Editor's note: NOT that in-your-faceness is always bad. Like one time a kid was being a super big bully to my small toddler (I mean, come ON) at the park, and after a couple failed attempts at my rationally trying to stop said bullying acts, I reverted to a kid-appropriate version of in-your-face. Crisis averted.]

Where was I? Oh yes, the shirt. I also like the collar, how it's kind of wide but also feminine. And the diamond (or crystal...or zircon...but probably, let's be real honest here folks, plastic) buttons. I tried to go with simple elegance by pairing it with a black pencil skirt (with ivory embroidered flowers, because, as I mentioned before, I was feeling all floralish today). Add a soft black cardigan, a braided belt that matched the sheen of the shirt, and a simple silver necklace. Oh, and my very super favorite flower accessory in my hair. (Also worn here and here. Heh.)

Then I quickly undid every hint of sophistication by busting out a girl's white bead bracelet and plum tights. But it was a balance risk I was willing to take. Black leather boots [Editor's note: Have I told you about my calf complex yet? No? Okay, well, another time. I'm sure it'll surface in due course. But, a complex I most certainly have.], annnnnd...time to go.

I wasn't terribly happy with the end result. Maybe because I'm going through a feeling-frumpy phase [Editor's note: Which SURELY can't be a result of my consuming 100s of pounds of Christmas goodies over the past week...]. But after a few minutes of considering and reconsidering what I'm wearing, I reach a point where I need to move on and do the stuff of life. Like eating breakfast, tying shoes, and kissing owies.

Sooo...what you see is what everyone at church got. And the Christmas music was so splendid today that, really, who even cares.

Happy Sunday.
