Jeans and a Neon Belt

Hey guys! I've missed you. It's been, what, a couple decades since I did an outfit post? Like, your children are college graduates and you now own a Buick since I last posted. Awesome. Congrats.

shoes: SO brand
jeans: American Eagle
belt: J.Crew
henley: J.Crew
sweater: Motherhood Maternity (I know, I know)

Today I lounged around the house and dodged snowflakes (!!!) while taking my 18-month-old's dirty diapers to the garbage can.

A freezing itinerary like this, in early October, calls for my busting out ultimate comfort-wear. And fancying things up with a neon belt. I dunno. Something about wearing a shiny neon accessory makes me feel like I could pass for a contributing member of society...

...until observant passersby spy my thick socks within my Toms knockoffs. Tacky, sure, but oh so warm.

I'm afraid I may be getting too old to care about style tackiness when it comes to the warmth of my toes. Which, I fully recognize, is a slippery slope that will inevitably lead to mu-mus and order-by-mail orthopedic shoes for everyday wear.

Which, speaking of...mmmmm...COMFY.

Happy Friday.

easy does it...whatever "it" is...

shoes & belt: forever21. jeans: kohl's. shirt: j.crew. watch: citizen brand.

Hey guys! It's Friend Friday! Forgive my brief answers...I'm on my way to a family BBQ & fireworks. Today's topic is: my personal uniform, slash, outfit formula.

1. What’s your go-to outfit formula? Depends on the weather and my mood, really, but for most months out of the year, it's skinny jeans and a shirt. And, who am I kidding, probably a cardigan as well, because I'm ob.SESS.ed with layering. In summer, I like to go for a random skirt and an equally random (although hopefully complementary) shirt. Hopefully I've shaved.

2. How did you come about this formula? I didn't set about to come up with a formula...these are simply the things that, over time, I've noticed that I grab when in a pinch. So...life? Life made me come up with this formula? Yes, let's go with that.

3. Do you have different formulas for different occasions in your life? Yes. When I've been pregnant, I went for anything that didn't make me look like a tent. And if it had an elastic waist, all the better. But other than that, I pretty much go by weather and how much bleach I'll be using in my forseeable kid-filled day.

4. Has it morphed over the years? I wouldn't say "morphed," but I would use the word's second-cousin "transitioned." Jeans-and-tee have been my go-to for years, but now I try to add a pop of something to make the outfit unique. A scarf, a chunky bracelet, a belt, a tuck, a braid. Something.

5. Which other blogger’s outfit formula would you like to swipe? This is going to sound like a total copout, but I'm being sincere: I wouldn't swipe anyone's, because I wear what works for me in my life and on my body. That's why it's my formula. If I were to swipe someone else's style, it wouldn't work the same for me and would ultimately disappoint me...and embarrass them, if I gave them credit. :) But don't get me wrong--I love many many bloggers' styles! Just, y'know, on the daily...I like to be me.

Happy Friday!

on sunburn and psyche

shoes: converse brand. leggings: don't recall (maybe old navy?). skirt & vest: thrifted. shirt j.crew. hairclip: downeast basics. necklace: handmade gift. watch: gift (citizen brand).
My daughter couldn't decide which bracelet of mine to wear this morning...so she wore them all. There's a lesson in there somewhere, don't you think? (p.s. Enlarge the photo below to check her face(s) out. Priceless.)
I have a peeling sunburn on my nose and the top of my forehead at my hairline. That's right. Super classy dandruff-lady, comin' through. Is it weird that I kinda planned this hodge-podge ensemble around that? Dandruff? I wanted to wear something that says, "hey, I'm actually a fairly hygienic person [minus flossing], but I'm sporting some scalp flakeage right now, so instead of stressing about something that will go away on its own in a day or two, I'll just dress all random like I'm super laid-back and you'll think I'm the outdoorsy type, in which case said peeling sunburn totally makes sense and actually makes me look kinda cool and approachable."

I think I nailed it. The "dress all random" part, anyway. Polka dot skirt with vest and baseball henley? Yeah baby. Definitely random.

Speaking of...My husband said, "yeah baby" to me the other day, which nearly caused our 2-year-old to have a pint-sized heart attack. "Dad! Mom is not yoi BABY! She's mom!" I think I'm getting old.

Happy Tuesday.

eat your heart out, MLB.

I love baseball henleys on girls. I think they're adorably masculine-feminine. Which actually makes no sense if you think about it, so don't think about it.
sandals: saltwater brand. jeans: express. shirt: j.crew. bracelet: burntsiena designs.
Forgive me. I'm in a silly mood today. And by "silly" I of course mean "I feel like an MLB pitcher in this shirt." Too bad I never went for it in my early years. I have a sinking suspicion I would've rocked the mound. See below:
You're going to roll your eyes at me (roll away), but I can't stop laughing at the first pic in the pitching series above. Here's why:
One word: jowls. (Wait, is that even what "jowls" are? If not, it should be definition #2.)
Regardless, it's Friend Friday! Today's topic: 5 summer trends that I'm looking forward to wearing this season. Topics like this make me really wish I was more up-to-speed on trends...but here we go.

1. wedge sandals. (I think these are a trend every summer...?)
2. braids. (I wear these year-round, but they're especially great to keep my neck cool in summertime.)
3. maxi dresses. (Didn't I say that for spring trends, too? Yep. Sure did. But I've hardly gotten a chance to wear mine. Surely trends can't change that fast...)
4. loose, flowy tops.
5. bright, neon nails. (I'm not in love with all-over neon (yet?), but it's fun on small-scale, like fingernails.)

Happy Friday!
