A 30-something mom's blog about modest style, DIY stuff, and limiting dessert. Just kidding. We eat dessert first around here.

a proponent of the maxi dress and, you guessed it, cilantro.

shoes: don't recall (like, 20 years old. srsly). dress: forever21. necklace: gift. bracelet: burntsiena designs.

Several of you have asked me to make my photos larger. Because I'm super awesome and accommodating (yep), I'm giving this new photo format a shot, and we'll see how it goes. I figure there are pros and cons to everything, and this is no exception.
Pros: You can see me and my outfits better.
Cons: You can see me and my outfits better. Hmmm...

Today is Modly Chic's Friend Friday! Today's topic is: labels.

1. As someone who writes/blogs about fashion, have you placed yourself into some sort of blogging category? Yes, I think so. The purpose of this little blog is to document my style decisions (okay, fine, and rant about random stuff). Sometimes I add a HomeStyle post or two, but by and large, people coming to this blog know what to expect: Me. Kinda crazy. But dressed.

2. What keeps you from or encourages you to label yourself as a certain kind of blogger? I like to know, in general, what I'm getting into when I click onto a site/blog. I assume others feel the same way, so I'm fine to label this blog as a "style" or "fashion" blog...annnnd because I couldn't find the category "lame & random" anywhere. Plan B it is.

3. When picking blogs to read and follow are you drawn to ones that indicate a certain group or way of thinking/being? Yes and no. I enjoy reading about things/people I can relate to or have experience with (for example, I like reading blogs of other moms and also modest style blogs). But I also enjoy (equally, oddly enough) blogs in which, at least on the surface, I don't have lots in common with the author. In general, though, I'm ultimately drawn to blogs that make me laugh and/or think. But not both at the same time, usually, because that's kinda like having milk come out my nose. Hurts.

4. Do you think there are benefits in labeling yourself or others? Sure. It can be helpful and useful.

5. Agree or Disagree - We're all just people; we don't need all the labels. Okay, now I'm worried that I've approached this topic the "wrong" way...but I honestly don't have hangups about blogging labels. Sure, there's more than meets the eye in everything, and there's no one label that fully encompasses any item ('cept for sweet pickles, and the appropriate label would be: "disgusting"). I think we all need to approach and add labels with caution, but I do believe they help the organized world go round.

That, and cilantro. Mmmmmm...

Happy Friday!

an unintended forever21 ad...

pretty much everything I'm wearing: forever21. earrings: hawaii.
This week I'm grateful for:

- dual-screen portable DVD players for long car rides.
- the completion of said long car rides.
- shelf-stable milk (my go-to beverage for traveling with chidren).
- great NBA games (anyone catch game 2? Hello.).
- having yet another annual yard sale with friends for the fourth year in a row.
- beautiful weather. Even moderately okay weather. Okay, fine, any weather that doesn't equate to snow when it's supposed to be spring.
- having my family (kids included! *passing out*) compliment a super easy, super fast, super delicious chicken dinner that came about from a let's-dig-out-something-from-the-cupboards sitch. Boom shakah.
- texting.
- Chick-fil-A chargrilled chicken sandwich. See yesterday's post. HEAVEN.
- TV. Sometimes I seriously love television.
- I flossed once this week. And I hate flossing. I guess I'm not really "grateful" for that... just wanted to brag a little bit.

Happy Sunday.

excuse me, sir, but may i take a nap on this park bench?

No matter how much sleep I get the night before, if I'm wearing a maxi dress, I feel like taking a nap. Who's with me?
sandals, dress, & necklace: forever21. cardigan: j.crew. bracelet: hawaii. coverage tank: motherhood maternity.

If there ever was an item of clothing that said, "Go ahead, eat anything you want and don't worry your ever-plumpening head about it for one second," the maxi dress is it. Complete with an empire (non)waist and some tie-dye (the epitome of comfort), it's a recipe for a beautifully fattening disaster. And by "disaster" I of course mean strawberry shortcake and BBQ ribs. For starters.

My free-to-expand belly is happy. My stopwatch-holding, whistle-blowing, lap-calculating running coach of a brain is not. I think she's going to make me run extra laps this week, just to teach me a lesson. Curses.

But I can't help it. Tie-dye is calling to me lately. And when something calls to me, in publically acceptable pajama-ness such as is embodied within the garment that is the maxi dress (didja catch all that? if not, read it again. it's beautiful.), I answer. Not only answer...I shoot my arm up to the sky, wave it around, and scream "PICK ME PICK ME PICK MEEEEE!!!"

Happy Thursday.

p.s. What's the age limit for wearing braids in one's hair? Because I think I'm defying it. Which isn't necessarily a good thing. But I don't see myself stopping anytime soon...
